Q&A with Hannah Courtney

What is the mission of the Student Support office?

  • The Student Support Office exists to be the starting point for students’ academic success. We’re here to answer questions, provide guidance, and help set students up for success in their studies. In addition to supporting students day to day, our office also plans and coordinates all hybrid weekends.

When should students contact Student Support?

  • Anytime! Our goal is that students would always know exactly where to turn for help. We want to remove the confusion and make it easy for every student to get connected to the right support. They can simply email [email protected], and we’ll make sure they get the assistance they need.

How does Student Support work alongside other offices on campus as it serves students?

  • Our office exists to serve students — and in doing so, we partner closely with other offices across campus. Think of us as the front door: when you come to us, we’ll either answer your question directly or connect you with the right office to help with your next steps.

What are some examples of questions Student Support regularly answers?

  • I’m having trouble getting registered for classes. Can you help?
  • I registered for three classes, but I work full-time. Is that too much?
  • What is it like to take a hybrid class?
  • When are certain classes offered online?
  • Where can I find my textbooks?

What’s one thing you wish people knew about Student Support?

  • When you call or reach out to us, you’ll always talk with someone who is encouraging and friendly. Students regularly tell us we’re one of the most helpful and encouraging offices they’ve ever encountered — and we see that as success!

How does Student Support help students serve the church and fulfill the Great Commission?

  • Our primary goal is to help students succeed at Southeastern so that they can be equipped to go out and serve the church and the nations. We organize all hybrid classes, which are designed for students actively serving in ministry — allowing them to remain with their church in their community while still coming to campus for class. We also aim to provide quick, clear answers to your questions — so you can spend less time searching for information and more time focused on your studies and ministry.

How are you excited to see the Student Support Office grow and continue to serve students in the future?

  • My vision for our office is that students would never be confused about where to go for help. All they need to remember is to email [email protected] and they’ll get the assistance they need. Students who study at a distance, especially, should see our office as their main resource and advocate. If you ever need help, please reach out to us!

What is your favorite thing about the Student Support team?

  • We sometimes get calls from students who share that something serious is going on in their lives. Whenever we can, we stop and pray with the students right then. When I come back to my desk after a meeting and see that one of my coworkers is praying with a student over the phone, I know that we’re doing our jobs right.
